Marshall Islands basketball coaches and players are benefiting from the visit by the highest-level coach ever to conduct trainings in the RMI. Coach Paul Goriss an Australian national team coach based at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, is in Majuro for a week of clinics with coaches and local high school and community league players — including conducting the first-ever women's coaching clinic in the Marshall Islands.

Ten Majuro men's basketball coaches received their Certificates of Completion for participating in a Level One basketball coaching training in Majuro. Honored on November 17 were: Daniel Price from Majuro Cooperative School,  Rickiano Antibas and Ryan Tarkwon of the Ministry of Education’s School Enrichment Program (SEP), Randon Kaneko of Marshall Islands High School, Herman Shoniber, Jr. and Vladimir Gulfan of Majuro Middle School, and coaches/players Isaac Marty and Ricky Alik. SEP official Edison Mathusla and Katol Levai, Jr. of Assumption Elementary School were not able to be presented at the ceremony but were also awarded Certificates.

 The first group of Marshallese female basketball coaches received their level-one FIBA Oceania Coaching certificates on November 20: Pat Anjain, Neiar Kabua, Antoinette Langmos, Yone Wase, Eleni Duanocoko, Candice Guavis and Nebwin deBrum.

The training was organized by the Marshall Islands Basketball Federation in partnership with the College of the Marshall Islands, Marshall Islands National Olympic Committee, FIBA Oceania and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. 

 Front Photo: At the Women’s clinic, Australian national Coach Paul Goriss works with national team player and coach Antoinette Langmos on a drill that emphasizes driving to the basket for a layup from the three-point line using only one dribble. The basketball training for women coaches and players is the first ever of its kind in the Marshall Islands.

Inside Photo: At Saturday’s Basketball clinic, under the direction Coach Goriss, Majuro players and coaches work on a "boxing-out" defensive drill. Goriss is in Majuro for a week conducting a series of coaching and player clinics.

 The training was organized by the Marshall Islands Basketball Federation in partnership with the College of the Marshall Islands, Marshall Islands National Olympic Committee, FIBA Oceania and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
