A high-level U.S. inter-agency delegation will visit Tonga, Kiribati, Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands August 1-7. Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt M. Campbell and Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Cecil Haney will lead the delegation, arriving in Majuro on Thursday, August 2, to meet with RMI President Christopher Loeak. On Friday, they will fly to Kwajalein Atoll and tour Ebeye, reports the Marshall Islands Journal.

 The delegation also includes Jeff Prescott, Special Advisor for Asian Affairs at the Office of the Vice President, and Gloria Steele, USAID Mission Director for the Philippines and the Pacific Islands.

 First stop on the trip is Tonga on August 1, followed by Kiribati, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia. On August 4, the delegation will travel to Palau and Papua New Guinea, arriving in the Solomon Islands on August 6.

The delegation expects to visit U.S.-supported projects in each nation and participate in events commemorating the 70<sup>th</sup> anniversary of World War II battles fought in the region, as well as meet with government and civil society leaders.

“This second annual inter-agency visit to the Pacific underscores the United States’ commitment to working with our Pacific Island partners to secure a sustainable, prosperous, and peaceful future,” said the State Department’s release.
